Psychai is a Butterfly winged nymph. In Greek mythology a nymph is represented as a beautiful young maiden spirit that represents nature.
Thought process
I have begun thinking about Psychai and decided that I want her to be covered in tiny butterflies. Not completely covered of course I want some of her body to be showing through. Another Idea I had was to make her wearing a dress that is turning into butterflies.
I am going to do this with her hair. Her hair will start off as normal hair and then float off into butterflies. I'm going to have to build an insane armature for this to work the way I imagine.
I also want Psychai to have wings of her own.
I will have to be very careful with this piece because of the moulding process. the butterflies have to be sculpted in such a way that they won't snap off during moulding. The best way to do this is to sculpt them with open, flat wings but this is too boring for me so I'll have to plan carefully .
I have her position in mind. I will try my best to describe it. It's kind of a motion pose. She would have been sitting on a rock and is in the process of getting up from it so her one foot is on the ground and her other is still on the rock. Her head will be tilted back slightly with her eyes closed as the breeze blows through her hair of butterflies.
I have some new and exciting news. I have decided that I'm going to get into digital sculpting as well now. I will still keep up my traditional sculpting on the side not only because I love it but also because I believe the two will help each other.
Due to this I have decided to do Psychai as a digital sculpture. I chose digital over traditional for this piece because I really want to design her butterflies the way I want them to be. I don't want to compromise my design because of moulding complications.
Obviously I am only just starting out with digital sculpting so this may take some time but I'm excited. Still deciding if I should start a separate Blog for my digital work or not. let's see how it goes.
